Loops of barbed wire stretched across no man’s land
Rain-filled trenches, days of standing in the cold, misery.
Dodging bombshells, sounds of bullets cracking
As they sat
In the dark
Waiting
Always fighting, day or night, dawn or dusk, always
always
always...
